Looking back across the years
Drawing maps and trailing tears
Scattering seeds all across the land
 Waiting for the flowers

 Pushing daisies through the cracks
On city streets by railroad tracks
Where you and I have cried and laughed
 Until the morning hours

Now once more in a twist of fate
We're strung out on love’s interstate
With a freedom only born of fate
I’m on my knees in prayer

 Sticking wildflowers in the gun
And swearing the bad times have come and gone
But you chalk up our continued run
To a corny line you got somewhere about time…
Give it time

We set out one early morn
So young back then we were barely born
We stole our hearts and steered them on
And to the four winds scattered

But you know how the story goes
The winds were wild, there was blood on the rose
And baby all along it was under our nose
Everything that mattered

Now that life has dumped us on the shoulder
I know what you're thinking – “I told ya”
But that's the kind of thing you'd never say
Though we'd both think it anyway

Standing here at the sidewalk's end
Another crack closer to the reckonin’ It ain't no map we're followin’
But everybody every now and then needs a sign…
 Send down a sign
Wherever it is we're going Pretty sure we're getting there
' Cause there's just somewhere up ahead And I'm pretty sure I don't care
Just where the wind is blowing, As long as it's in your hair
Wherever it is we sure are We sure are getting there

Yeah I took the pill, I swallowed it clean
I followed in the footsteps of a faded regime
I saw rainbows in the gasoline
I was coasting on the fumes of yesterday's dream

When the engine went to idle and idle to dead
And I thought about something the TV said
About rainbows and where they lead
The gold's always another mile ahead

Yeah the price was dear, the road was steep
And on the brink of way too deep
You pulled me out of a lithium sleep
We checked our bags and lit out

And it was gold to silver, silver to dust
Scattering the ashes from a Greyhound bus
If there's one thing in this life I've sussed
You care for it, it moves you down the line…
It moves you down the line

Now with them bad times come and gone
They were hard lost but harder won
And I won't forget all the fighting we've done
If you don't forget just where we're going

Now we’re broken down, and no one’s cryin’
No one feigning wild surprise
Just silly questions and smiling eyes
The answers we're both knowing

“Can't we go back to the good old days
Rolling down the road in a glory blaze?”
I laugh and stick another flower in the vase
No, but we got a field where we can lie

And gaze into them rolling clouds
And hope that someone's looking down
In a mirror world where it's right-side-round
Where mine is yours and where darling what's yours is mine…
What's mine is yours, what’s yours is mine

Wherever it is we're going Pretty sure we're getting there
' Cause there's just somewhere up ahead And I'm pretty sure I don't care
Just where the wind is blowing, As long as it's in your hair
Wherever it is we sure are We sure are getting there… We’re getting there

Drinking ripple on a Sunday afternoon We’re shaving that old dog and callin’ some tunes Looks like them good old days don’t go gently into that good night Still we do what we can to try to keep up the good fight But the juice is runnin' low, we’re in the reserves And time’s out on the other side, steeling his nerves So I say, “come on honey let’s ride, there’s a depot just over the line” Yeah, we gotta keep this castle rockin’ like we did back in ‘99 So sit tight and hold on, and wait around For the reinforcements to come along Gonna keep this old fort rockin’ till the cavalry comes We ain’t slowin' down, yeah we hardly begun So stow them blues and try to have a little fun And keep on gunnin’, ‘cause the cavalry is comin’ You hear that shotgun crack and we’re back on the run It seems like always somethin’ tapped out, the gas or the funds And we’re burnin’ the fumes just tryin’ to make it back to the fight Yeah we do what we can, and sometimes it comes out right Gonna keep this old fort rockin’ till the cavalry comes We ain’t slowin’ down, yeah we hardly begun So stow them blues and try to have a little fun And keep on runnin’… So load up the last round and rally the crew And quit all that talk about the good times we knew ‘Cause just when you think the last few are down or fallin’ You hear that bugle callin’ Well the battle is lost but this war ain’t over yet Fortune and glory, and should we forget All the good times we lost, we still fire one off from time to time Yeah it’s the most we can do to try to keep up with this life And when it’s winding down, that’s when you got to That’s when you got to sing it loud Gonna keep this old fort rockin’ till the cavalry comes We ain’t slowin’ down, yeah we hardly begun So stow them blues and try to have a little fun And keep on gunnin’, ‘cause the cavalry is comin’

Well it was late one night, not a star in sight When I took the john boat down to the dyke I was hot on the trail of the golden pike I was gonna show them boys just who was right It was quiet as a rock, still as a stone I got the feeling that I weren’t alone Up row a man in a long row boat His hood was black but his skin was bone He smelled like death, he looked like laughter He said that he knew just what I was after, He said, “Come with me boy, you can leave that tackle, It ain’t a question, boy, you gotta” Chorus Row man, row, the Devil can row Faster than the motor on your little john boat Ain’t a prayer keep you afloat So take a deep breath, it’s down we go When I came to, my skin was blue In the watery light of the pale yellow moon Floating high above, trickling through But getting further and further every breath I drew Legend had it, well, I couldn’t remember Something ‘bout a fish and a flood and a sinner I didn’t care, man, I was gonna win her After all fishes is good for dinner Chorus Well I hit rock bottom, and guess what I saw There were streets and houses and cars and Trees swaying in a breeze by a lake in the park Golden scales glowing deep in the dark Then came a rumble in my chest like thunder Those that reach far God splits asunder A crack and a horn like the Judgement Day Then the tide came along and swept me away, singing Chorus And to this day, the locals say “If you go fishing, boy, don’t stray There’s a lake and a town deep down beneath And a golden fish you’d best let be” But if you gotta be brave, don’t be a fool And like I did forget this rule Careful what you seek, you may find What’s waiting for you at the end of your line Chorus

The days go by, and the signs go by
On the interstate. It's getting late.
The city lights are fading in.
We've seen some road, but we're going home,

‘Cause we're getting tired of northern ways,
Of northern winds, of northern lays.
It's been some time, but we're turning in.
We can't deny it was better then.

Go your way you wayfaring stranger.
Watch the years, and nothing’s changed.
You're still running down the dreams
Of the old wayfaring kings, but they're gone.

We ended up in Tennessee With an old grey coat, run out of green.
We heard the last chord in the air,
But its dying down was too much to bear.

We'd lost our minds, but we had our pride,
And we stood prepared to die.
Them shadows crawling across the land.
Night knows the way to break a man.

 There's a place I go when I'm feeling gone.
It's summer there, and I'm still a son.
Don't you try to learn, don't you try to care,
And when you're gone, you leave it there.

Go your way you wayfaring stranger.
Watch the years, and nothing’s changed.
You're still running down the dreams
Of the old wayfaring kings, but they're gone,
But they're gone.

Maze of Love 05:41
I'm lost baby, lost in your maze of love
I'm lost baby, lost in this crazy love
I can't find my way through
I'm lost baby, lost in you

I've been all up and down this floor
Lookin' around every corner and behind every door I've been all up and down this floor
Lookin' around every corner and behind every door
And it ain’t nothin’ but dead ends Places I've already been in this crazy love

I can hear a voice callin’
From outside these long, lonely walls
I can hear a voice that’s callin’
From outside these long, lonely walls
It's drivin' me insane
I’ve got to stop the pain

I'm lost baby, lost in your maze of love
I'm lost baby, lost in this crazy love
I can't find my way through
I'm lost baby, lost in you

Someone called the Mountain Patrol It looks like the party’s got too much soul We shoulda guessed it, it ain’t a surprise We been shakin’ on the mountain since we saw the moon rise It started down on the docks Billy started beatin’ on an old beer box And Martha joined in on a couple of spoons Till I took out my guitar and started to croon When we get to singin’ There ain’t no stoppin’ us, let ‘em come-a-ringin’ ‘Cause when we’re feelin’ the power It gets stronger by the minute, no matter what the hour I think we got it under control But somethin’ tells me you’re gonna stroll right in Anyway, after all it ain’t a party Till someone calls the Mountain Patrol Right about the clock strike three Someone yells out “we got company” Headlights brakin’ at the top of the drive Shinin’ up on a scene, sakes alive! Jenny’s got her tongue in a clown someone invited Billy got caught with his pants down unrequited Twins crankin’ butts in the mashed potatoes All things better left unilluminated When we get to singin’ There ain’t no stoppin’ us, let ‘em come-a-ringin’ ‘Cause when we’re feelin’ the power It gets stronger by the minute, no matter what the hour I think we got it under control But somethin’ tells me you’re gonna stroll right in Anyway, after all it ain’t a party Till you party with the Mountain Patrol “Hey there wait a minute, man, don’t we know each other? Aren’t you the kid of a friend of my mother? Come on in, take a break, man, I know you’re just a volunteer Folks this is Officer Dan. Dan, do you want a beer?” An hour later and the party’s still bumpin’ Billy passed out in a pile of somethin’ And Bojangles at the “I love you man” stage Cryin’ while Martha’s playin’ “Tears of Rage” Revolutionaries shootin’ the Crown And officer Dan…”officer down” And the Mountain Patrol is on the radio They’re callin’ for backup, and we’re callin’ Hey dee ho! Hey dee ho… When we get to singin’ There ain’t no stoppin’ us, let ‘em come-a-ringin’ ‘Cause when we’re feelin’ the power It gets stronger by the minute, no matter what the hour It got a little out of control What can I say, that’s just how we roll over here Anyway, after all it ain’t a party Till you party with the Mountain, Till you party with the Mountain Patrol!

Mississippi Avenue Alone, it’s 5 AM And you’ve got a dying recollection  Of the room that you was in And on your lips and tongue, the stain Of sin and spirits bleeding There’s a missed call on the telephone You’ve got a bad feeling The promise of the evening It only goes so far Then you’re out there on the avenue Taking whatever’s having you Deep down believing This wasn’t in the cards But you’re a fool for the dream… Yeah the dream dies hard She handed you a whiskey She handed you a kiss She promised you her body And led you by the wrist Down alleyways to basement doors  Somehow you had the key And you emerge with one less day One more dark memory The promise of forever It only goes so far Another night, another love Not much to speak of No stranger to deception Yet somehow there you are Still dreaming of forever… Yeah the dream dies hard Past rain battered bodegas The Mississippi slides Past river towns and shanty bars Gambling with the tide And I followed my reason And I followed my heart Now I just follow the river Getting further from the start The promises they make you They’ll get you good and far When you’re out there on the river And she’s taken all you’ve given her And the dream has forsaken you And left you in the dark Just trying to wake up From a dream… Mississippi Avenue Ain’t nothing but a dream If one thing is for certain It’s that things ain’t what they seem ‘Cause this life is a jungle And you don’t aim to leave ‘Cause there ain’t nothing out there Or so you believe The promise of the avenue Will get you good and far But the Mississippi needs out And one day it’s gonna bleed out Maybe then redeem you  Of your sins, your lucky stars When the dream dies, baby The dream dies

Well Old Blue was a good car, she took it nice and slow She most agreed with anywhere that I’d suggest we go Out upon the highway, sailing like a dream All that honking at her, but my Blue was true to me Chorus: Blue, I’ll remember you When I’m riding in my limousine on Broadway They put you in the junkyard, but don’t you cry for shame ‘Cause there ain’t no set of wheels that could ever live up to your name Yeah, she was better to me any person’s ever been She ran on dreams and gasoline, and she didn’t drink my gin Blue was always game when it was time to go to town And she’d always take the wheel when the police pulled us down Chorus It used to be for Old Blue that no mountain was too steep No road was ever to long, no ocean was too deep When she got old I could not bear to see her turn to rust So I gassed up her and made a sign: “Anywhere or bust!” It was in the front seat where I held my mama’s hand And it was in the back seat where I became a man They put you in the junkyard, but don’t you cry for shame ‘Cause we’re headed off to Texas to the Motor Hall of Fame Come on girl, we’re headed for the big time! Well I drove her through the desert, I drove her through the snow I drove her into outer space and on to Idaho And it was on some dusty mountain road, my darling met her match So I sold her parts and shed a tear, and bought a Cadillac Chorus

Here we go again, rollin’ down that road We know where it ends, but that never stopped us before Baby you’s my friend, come on let’s make it more again Let’s stick it to the floor, come on baby Chorus: One more time, baby let’s do this one more time We ain’t got the reason, but baby we got the rhyme We may find that we end up upon this same old line But baby I don’t mind, let’s do this one more time Here we go again, I can follow the signs Straight till you hit water, then go a little bit farther now baby Ain’t no shame at all, it’s so easy to fall And there’s a flame below, so let’s stick it to the wall, come on baby Chorus Here we go again, here we go again Rollin’ down the road, wanna little piece of soul Got a fire below, so baby here we go again Can you follow the sign, can you follow the sign Ain’t a shame at all, gonna stick it to the wall, Got a fire in the drawer, so come on baby follow the sign Rollin’ down the road, wanna little piece of soul Got a fire below, so baby here we go, singin’ Ain’t a shame at all, gonna stick it to the wall Gotta fire in the drawer, baby everybody falls Choruses

Oklahoma 05:43
I pulled over north of OKC.
There was just something in the air, like a blood memory
Blowing across the Osage on a prairie wind,
Carrying me back to some place I ain't never been
In my time, no in my time.

I saw the old dreams in ashes lie
In a circle around my life, just waiting to fly,
But there's still a fire in my heart, and I feel home
 For the first time.

I knew an old man, was born in Wichita.
He worked in the black gold, and he fought in the war.
Our war was cold so we made our own,
And it's over now, but it ain't never won.

It's gonna take a new dream to shake the dust
When the body's fallow, and the spirit's rust.
There's still a fire in my heart, and I'm coming home for another try
In Oklahoma, in Oklahoma.

All that young direction, just like smoke in the wind,
Is gathering up in a heaven that you once placed your hopes in.
There's a storm coming, yeah that cloud is gonna fall
And sow the fields with ashes – you know everything that passes
Will come again.

And ain't it just like old Wichita's advice?
It never really sticks but after once or twice.
For all your driving, you're gonna lose that road,
But that don't matter none when you finally decide to step in from the cold.

So give me a new dream, the old dream is dust.
Fire up the old rig, and damn the rust.
Stoke the fires in your hearts, I'm coming home for another try
In Oklahoma, in Oklahoma, in Oklahoma.
